Board Spotlight: Dr. Ramada Smith

Dr. Ramada S. Smith joined our board this year and is a member of the Foundation’s Grants Committee. As we highlight this year’s grantees, we also want to highlight those members of the committee who worked so diligently to allocate the Foundation’s funds to nonprofits in our community.

Dr. Smith earned a B.S. in Natural Science from Michigan State University and M.D. from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. She completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the Detroit Medical Center. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Prior to moving to North Carolina, she worked in Maryland where she held a clinical assistant professor appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Smith is a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. She has been issued patents for a device to detect ruptured membranes during pregnancy in the United States and Canada. She has authored numerous peer-review publications with an emphasis on prenatal ultrasound.

Dr. Smith joined CaroMont Medical Group in 2004. She is a high-risk OB consultant and ultrasound specialist at CaroMont Perinatal. She has served as the Director of CaroMont Health’s Women and Children’s Council and as the Physician Administrator for the Women’s Health Service Line where she spearheaded the OB High-Risk Nurse Navigator and Winning “Weighs” for Women programs. She currently serves on the executive committee of the CaroMont Health Foundation Board and is an associate member of the Gastonia-Piedmont chapter of Jack and Jill of America.

Dr. Smith is married to Kevin and has three adult children: Kevin Jr., Shannon and Lauren.
