Animal League Gaston County $10,000.00 ALGC will offer free spay/neuter services to Gaston County residents who receive Medicaid, food stamps or WIC (Women, Infants and Children). Our goal is to reduce pet overpopulation in Gaston County, thereby reducing the number of animals entering the shelter, minimizing the unnecessary deaths of healthy, shelter animals and lowering the associated economic costs to the community.
BackPack Weekend Food Program, Inc. $15,000.00 The mission of the BackPack Weekend Food Program, Inc. is to feed children during the weekend during the school year so they can come to school ready to learn.
Belmont Trolley, Inc. $15,000.00 We are seeking a lead-off commitment for our car barn which will be the centerpiece of our trolley operation.

Belmont Trolley's board has been working with the City of Belmont and the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Rail Division to plan and implement the operation of a historic streetcar in downtown Belmont. We are beginning capital campaign to construct a car barn and open begin operations in late 2018.
Bit of Hope Ranch $5,000.00 Since 2008, the counseling services we have offered have been “boutique style” in that counselors rent space from Bit of Hope Ranch in order to practice their craft.

As of January 2016, we received seed funding to bring on a permanent professional counselor part time. In order to meet demand, we are preparing to increase the counselor's hours to full time status.
Carolina Thread Trail $33,000.00 This request for funds supports the Carolina Thread Trail through its capital campaign. The funds will support a portion of the Thread Trail's operations, but more importantly will enable us to continue our community grants program for Gaston County. These grant funds assist communities in completing segments of the trail.
Children's Home Society of North Carolina, Inc. $5,000.00 The Children's Home Society of North Carolina (CHS) requests funds to support the recruitment and licensing of foster care families in Gaston County to meet the growing demand of children entering the foster care system.
Christ Community outreach food ministry $1,000.00 Funds to provide clothes, food and necessities to an underserved population.
Classroom Central, Inc. $7,500.00 Classroom Central collects and distributes free school supplies to students living in poverty. We served 39 schools and 10,740 students in Gaston County and distributed supplies valued at $508,433.46 to Gaston County teachers and students during the 2016-2017 school year. We respectfully request funding to provide core, urgently needed school supplies to be distributed through our Mobile Free Store program to serve schools and students in need in Gaston County.
Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden $9,200.00 Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden (the Garden) respectfully request your consideration of a grant to help support our mission to create an inspiring, unforgettable garden experience that instills a love of nature and its beauty by planting spring-flowering bulb layers in three high volume visitation areas throughout the Garden. Bulb layers will enhance the Garden's beauty and visitor's aesthetic enjoyment by adding color and fragrance in frequently visited areas of the Garden.
Family Promise of Gaston County $5,000.00 Family Promise is seeking funds to help support the Shelter Program for homeless families in Gaston County.
Friends of the Gaston County Public Library $5,000.00 The Friends of the Gaston County Public Library's request for funds is to enhance the Bessemer City Library with technology to support an environment that fosters traditional and digital literacy. Funds will be used to increase opportunities to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Making in a welcoming learning environment. Builders and Creators @ BC will be inclusive for all groups in the community, providing access to resources to those who cannot afford it .
Gaston College $7,000.00 Funds from the Community Foundation will be used for Materials/Supplies, NCCER Certifications and Marketing Cost to start a Construction Trades Program at Gaston College.
Gaston County Museum of Art & History $2,500.00 This grant will assist in providing an immersive STEAM program for 4th grade students at ten Gaston County elementary schools at no additional cost. This program will also be available to all other county elementary schools with no admission cost.
Gaston Symphonic Band $2,500.00 The GSB will produce 3 major concerts (4 performances) in the 2017-18 season. In addition the band will make 5-6 other appearances in support of local community activities. Funds sought will help defray costs of these concerts and appearances.
Gaston YMCA $15,000.00 Funds would be used 1) to purchase the hardware associated with creating tablet kiosks at central locations in Gaston County at which individuals in need or individuals assisting those in need may input requests for assistance directly to the Resource Connection Gateway (RCG) and 2) to train area volunteers to accept RCG calls and work directly with those inquiring of assistance. Special emphasis will be on communications with dignity and respect and proper documentation.
Gastonia Police Foundation $4,000.00 The Gastonia Police Foundation requests funds to enhance victim/witness services. Funding will certify six department members as Victim Practitioners, educate first responders on strangulation, and educate the community on our victim-centered approach to services. Additional funds will be used to promote awareness and to increase the number of victims served.
Girls on the Run Gaston County $5,000.00 We are requesting funds to provide at-need girls within the community with program scholarships and that would allow our organization to provide 59 percent of program participants with program scholarships during the 2017-18 school year.

Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County $37,500.00 Habitat Gaston is requesting a sponsorship of home (#115) in honor of our 30th anniversary, that is a part of the revitalization project in Gastonia, NC. Neighborhood Revitalization relies on partners such as you to help make the lives of the residents of Gaston County safer and to allow these families the ability to watch their children grow and have productive lives.
HealthNet Gaston $10,000.00 Missions of Mercy is a collaboration between NC Dental Society, Gaston County Dental Society, Gaston Family Health Services, CaroMont Health, and area dentists to provide free dental care to low-income members of the community. The event will be held September 22-23, 2017 at Bethlehem Church with a goal of providing dental services to 800 people.
Holy Angels Inc. $9,705.00 Holy Angels requests funds to support our "Comforting Cherubs" Project. The goal is to purchase 30 new adaptive recliners to meet the needs of our children and adults we serve. Adaptive recliners are used to improve the comfort and mobility of our residents.
Least of These Gaston $4,000.00 We are requesting funds for our Bag of Hope program to be used for Gaston County children that are entering into the foster care system. These large duffel bags (embroidered with the child's first name) are filled with items that the foster parent in is need of for the child. We are asking specifically for funds for the contents of the bags.
Let Me Run Gaston County $5,000.00 Let Me Run of Gaston County requests funding to provide: 60 program scholarships to participants in need of financial assistance, snacks for 9 teams, and background checks for volunteers.
Lowell Women's Club $4,000.00 The Lowell Women's Club, working with City administration, seeks to provide enhanced opportunities for citizens of all ages to participate in outdoor exercise. Rankin Park, the primary City outdoor venue, now offers a playground, walking track, basketball court and two ball/soccer fields. The project, if approved, would add self-weighted exercise equipment specifically designed for outdoor use.
Mercy Housing Southeast $2,500.00 Requested funds would be used to support Cultivating Healthy Communities – an initiative that helps vulnerable seniors improve their overall health by providing activities focused on nutrition and access to healthy foods. Funds would help cover costs for materials for the community garden, including tools, plants, and soil; curriculum and supplies for nutrition education and cooking classes; and daily fitness activities, serving 40 senior households at Mercy Place Belmont in Gaston County, NC.
Mount Holly Farmers Market $10,000.00 The Mount Holly Farmers Market request a match in funds raised for a
Trellis and Shade System and garden for our market. Positioned on South Main Street, it will be used as a more permanent place for programming for our market as well as a venue for various city and community events.
Off the Streets Program, Inc. $8,000.00 Off The Streets Program, Inc. will use the requested funds to provide a stipend for a transportation coordinator and continue to pay counselor for one-on-one and group counseling sessions. Funding will also be used to raised awareness of the need for services through educational and promotional material and literature.
Rotary Community Garden of Gastonia $5,000.00 The mission of the Rotary Community Garden is to build community, feed our neighbors, and educate another generation of growers. These funds will allow us to maintain and improve the infrastructure of the Garden so we may continue to grow not only food for the hungry in body, but friendship and fellowship for the hungry in spirit.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina $20,000.00 Grant funds will be used to purchase one of several forklifts with scales needed to help streamline operations as our capacity to accept and distribute more food increases as a result of our current building expansion. Our expansion will allow us to provide greater amounts of healthy, nutritious foods to agencies in Gaston County and surrounding areas. SHFBM needs the right equipment that will balance productivity with helping us keep up with growth.

The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Gaston County $1,000.00 The funds will be used exclusively to re-launch our partnership with the Boy Scouts of America Piedmont Council. Our boy members ages 5-11 will be able to benefit from a community outreach Cubs Troop at the Lowell Club for one hour a week during our Afterschool programming year.

The Schiele Museum $15,000.00 The Schiele is requesting support for the refurbishment of the Elizabeth Williams Robinson Hall to transform it into a flexible featured exhibit space. The City of Gastonia worked to restore the integrity of that section of the building which had developed severe cracking and needed stabilization devices. The museum now has a blank slate which needs finishes to prepare it for exhibit installation which can then be experienced by the public.
Webb Street School $30,000.00 The total project cost of the playground is $257,482. We are seeking funding toward the poured in place rubber surface that will allow all children, regardless of mobility issues, access to the playground. This surface permits children of all abilities to play side by side on such a playground whether in a wheelchair, walker or suffer from vision issues that may cause tripping. This surface is ADA recommended.
