The Next Generation Fund was officially endowed on October 2, 2000. The first co-chairs, Natalie Tindol and Steven Case, together with 110 young community leaders, raised $15,000 in that inaugural year. Today, the endowment has grown to nearly $425,000.
In recent years, our name evolved into the Next Generation Giving Circle and any age is welcome to join the Circle as we better reflect our mission. Yet the heart of that mission has never changed: to make philanthropy both accessible and fun—while making a real difference in Gaston County.
Over 25 years, hundreds of volunteer hours have been invested, and more than $215,000 in grant funding has been distributed—impacting children and youth, families, our environment, vital human service agencies and so much more. Together, we have proven the difference we can make when we work and serve side by side. To every member who has carried this vision forward over the years—thank you!
At this year’s Sims Award Presentation, Next Gen’s 25th anniversary was honored with reflections by Natalie Tindol and Lauren Vanacore, as well as a festive toast and surprise fireworks display. It was a celebration to remember and one that compels us to look forward. In the years ahead, we will continue to do what we do best: supporting Gaston County nonprofits with our time, talents, and grantmaking; gathering for fellowship and connection; and growing our endowment so that Next Gen can celebrate its 50th anniversary and beyond.
Today, under the leadership of Amy Spencer, Steering Committee Chair, and the entire Next Gen Steering Committee, our future is bright. As your Community Foundation, we offer heartfelt gratitude to those who built this movement from the ground up, and we extend this charge to current members: keep inviting your friends to join us on this journey.
What began as a grassroots initiative has become a powerful force for good. We look forward to all the ways Next Gen will continue to build a stronger, more connected Gaston County. May our efforts always bear good fruit in this place we love—where we live, work, worship, serve, and play.
