I AM! I CAN! I WILL! Community Math Academy Comes to Gaston County

We were honored to present the 2025 grant recipient with $10,000 to help administer the Community Math Academy right here in Gaston County.

For three weeks each summer, students from local Gaston County schools sharpen their math skills before heading back into the classroom, turning what could be a “summer slide” into a summer step forward.

A Program Built on Proven Success

Retired school principal Tropzie McCluney is leading the charge, bringing the program’s mantra, I AM! I CAN! I WILL! to a new community after seeing incredible success building the academy in Cleveland County.

What’s Next

In Cleveland County, the learning doesn’t stop when summer ends. Every Saturday morning, students can connect virtually with a teacher for extra help with a specific problem or to follow along with a planned lesson. It’s a resource Community Math Academy hopes to bring to Gaston County soon.

Community Math Academy is made possible by the generosity of our grant program and the dedication of local educators committed to student success.
