Through the generosity of our donors, the Foundation offers a wide range of scholarships to recognize achievement, respond to financial need, and help cultivate future community leaders. Review criteria and award details to find the best fit for your goals and start your application.

  • $1,500 scholarship for residents of Gaston, Cleveland, or Lincoln (NC) or York (SC) pursuing an advanced medical degree (e.g., MSN, NP, MD, DDS, PA, PT). Requires a completed bachelor’s (3.5+ GPA) and enrollment at a North or South Carolina institution.
  • The Dr. William & Karen Hunter Science Scholarship provides a one-time $500 award to a Gaston County graduating senior with a strong academic record, a commitment to studying science, demonstrated leadership and character, and financial need. Preference is given to students pursuing Neuroscience or related fields at an accredited four-year college.
  • The George & Patricia Barnard Scholarship awards a $20,000 scholarship ($5,000/year and renewable for three more years) to a Gaston County high school senior who demonstrates leadership, initiative, extracurricular involvement, and significant financial need; mentoring and a one-time Stultz Internship stipend are included.
  • $750 scholarship for an Ashbrook High School senior planning to major in history or political science and attend Gaston College or a UNC system university.
  • $2,000 scholarship honoring Judge Ralph C. Gingles, Jr.; for a Gaston County graduating senior with a 3.0+ unweighted GPA, financial need, and acceptance to a four-year college or university.
  • The Jarman Family Scholarship offers a one-time $5,000 award to support the child of a full-time religious minister living in North or South Carolina. Selected annually, the recipient is chosen based on character, academic performance, and financial need for undergraduate or graduate study.
  • $1,000 scholarship from the Gastonia Evening Lions Club for a Gaston County high school graduate who is seriously sight/hearing impaired—or the child of a person who is. Must be a county resident (1+ year) and plan to attend an accredited North Carolina college or university.
  • Created to honor John Hunsucker’s legacy of giving and going the extra mile, this one-time $1,000 scholarship supports a Forestview High School senior who reflects his motto of being a gentleman or lady first, a scholar second, and an athlete last, and who is headed to an accredited college or advanced technical program.
  • A $750 scholarship for students from Gaston or Lincoln counties who have earned a high school diploma and been accepted to an accredited college or university.
  • Scholarship support for students pursuing accredited nursing degrees (LPN, RN, BSN). One-year awards open to graduating seniors and those advancing skills.
